Enjoying a Night at the Movies

1. Choosing a Seat
Emily and her American friend Dennis are in line to buy movie tickets.
D=Dennis E=Emily C=Clerk

D: Do you think we can make the eight o'clock show?
E: Not if we want to catch the previews. There's an 8:15, but it's in 3D.
D: No, thank you. I guess that leaves the 8:30 showtime.
E: I hope there are still seats available.
C: Hi, which movie would you like to watch today?
E: We'd like two tickets for the 8:30 showing of The Clay King, please.
C: (Pointing to a seating chart on a screen) How about Row F, Seats five and six?
D: Anything further back?
C: Sorry, those are the only seats that are together.
D: OK, no problem.

2. Buying Tickets
Emily and Dennis are ready to pay for their tickets.
D=Dennis E=Emily C=Clerk

C: Would you like to add two drinks and two medium popcorns for NT$50?
E: Yes, we would.
D: Also, I have a student card.
C: OK, that's NT$20 off with the student discount. And U-Bank card holders get NT$100 off. So your total comes to NT$510. (The clerk gives them their tickets.) Your movie is in Cinema 16. Customers will be allowed into the theater five minutes prior to the start of the movie. Please be sure not to lose your tickets. You can pick up your concessions at the concession stand.

My goose is cooked.

• You're a dead duck.
• You're in big trouble.
• You're dead meat.

A: I heard that the teacher knows you cheated on the test. He wants to have a talk with you later today. He looks angry.
B: Oh no. My goose is cooked.
A: Yeah, dude. Good luck. You'll need it.
