Recently, a heartwarming video of a baby kangaroo giving a man a big hug went viral on social media. In the video, the joey▼ won’t let go, even as the man tries to walk away. The man, an Australian named Chris Barnes, rescued the young kangaroo after it lost its parents, so the joey now looks to him for love and, of course, hugs. For over 10 years, Barnes has been caring for injured or orphaned kangaroos at The Kangaroo Sanctuary▼ in Alice Springs, Australia. Once the joeys become adults, Barnes releases them back into the wild. There are also some adult kangaroos living at the shelter that can’t make it in the wilderness▼. In fact, Barnes’s sanctuary started with a kangaroo named Roger that still lives there. Like many orphaned kangaroos, Barnes found Roger on the side of the road when he was just a joey. Roger had nowhere to go, so Barnes started his shelter to care for him. Unfortunately, an injury kept Roger from being released into the wild when he grew up. Thanks to Barnes and the workers at The Kangaroo Sanctuary, many of these beautiful animals have gotten a second chance at life.
