The generation born after the Baby Boomers, but before the Millennials▼ is famously known as Generation X. Born from the early 1960s to the early 1980s, they got off to a slow start. By the time they came of age, there were economic problems and America was at war. It appeared that Gen X-ers did not have a lot going for them. National Geographic Channel (NGC) tracks how the slacker▼ generation came into its own in the new show, Generation X. In 1991, a grunge▼ band, Nirvana, from Seattle released the song Smells Like Teen Spirit. The song was a giant hit. It was also the first time that music from the Gen X-ers had made it into popular culture. Suddenly, Gen X-ers such as Ethan Hawke, Kurt Cobain, Winona Ryder, and Christian Slater became the icons▼ of their generation. The six part series tells how a generation of couch potatoes changed mainstream culture forever. To find out more, tune in to watch Generation X starting this month on NGC. |
